When we tap into the qualities of Fire, what will this bring to you? How is the fire element represented in your life? Externally we observe fire every day with the light and heat of the sun, on colder days it’s the fire that warms up our homes and bodies. Or in something as simple as a warm cup of coffee. Fire is hot, intense and powerful as it physically transforms solid matter into gas.
In our physical body we observe fire in the heat, we feel our heart pumping and it drives our digestion, muscles, nerves and brain activity. The energy centre in the body for the fire element is the solar plexus. It is here where we hold our sense of who we are and who we are not, it is our power centre. How do I know when the fire element is out of balance? When there is a lack of fire element you might become depressed, lazy, you miss that passion for life, are low on energy or feel lonely. An inability to sleep, insomnia, irritable, angry, aggressiveness are signs you have an excess of the fire element. What qualities does fire bring to my life? Fire is active, alive and vital. It’s dynamic, full of spark and an unstoppable movement. It drives our imagination and awakens random news insights. The fire element connects us to our intuition, that puts our cognitive processes into motion. It allows us to be enthusiastic about our actions and be dedicated and focused on our tasks ahead. Fire is the passion to live, to be in the heat of the moment of the continuous transformation. How do I connect to the fire element? Whether there is a lack or an excess of fire, connecting consciously to the fire element helps you bring it back into balance. Physically you can pay attention to the heat of the sun, make a campfire or light a candle and observe the flames. It can also be as simple as observing the heat of your cup of tea or coffee. There are many yoga poses that bring your fire element more into balance as for example the sun salutation (Surya Namaskar), plank pose (Phalakasana) or chair pose (Utkatasana). Another option is awakening it with the breath of fire. A powerful breathing exercise that really gets the energy moving within and around the body. In walking meditation, we connect to the fire element within. Observing how fire is present in your body, but also how you are connected to the fire around you. For example, the energy of the sun penetrates everything on the earth, also flowing through your body. Observing this unstoppable energy river going through your body gives you a sense that we are all connected. Explore one of these practices to bring your fire element back into balance.
